TUI Travel Meets with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi

In a bid to boost tourism to the country, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi held a meeting with the key international players in the international tourism market yesterday, 17th November, 2014. A number of senior figures from the UK travel industry, including Johan Lundgren and TUI Travel’s managing director of product and purchasing Garry Wilson.

\r\nThe meeting focused on topics such as safety and security as well as how UK travel companies can work more closely with the Egyptian authorities to boost tourist numbers.

\r\nCommenting on the meeting Mr. Johan Lundgren said: “The stability in main tourism areas has helped improve confidence in the Egyptian tourism product and the President has reassured us that he remains resolute about supporting and prioritizing on the safety and security issues.” Adding that Egypt’s perception as a destination for our tourists is rising and we will be continue to facilitate inbound tourism growth and investment in this country.”

\r\nHe added: “It was a very successful and progressive meeting this morning and we have been asked personally to meet with the Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab in the coming weeks to discuss progress on these issues with a special focus on TUI Travel’s specific plans for investments and growth,” Elaborating that “the aim is to reach ways in which we can work together with the Egyptian authorities to successfully bring back the number of TUI travelers back to the levels seen in previous years.”

\r\nTUI is keen to double its capacity to Luxor next year, following its leading initiative to return to Luxor earlier this year, with the introduction of flights from Manchester. An additional resort, Marsa Alam has also been added into the UK and German programs.
\r\n
\r\nEl Sisi had demonstrated commitment to tourism and to harnessing government efforts to accelerate economic growth. Consequently the delegates gladly seized the opportunity to work closely with the Egyptian Government to bring about Egypt as a safe and exclusive holiday destination in the region in a bid to restore tourism to the country.
